Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

What is ART?

  •  An evidence-based therapy that uses back-and-forth eye movements.
  • Sessions are structured but flexible, often lasting 60–75 minutes.
  • Guides the client in replacing distressing mental images associated with Post-Traumatic Stress with positive, self-chosen images.
  • Helps treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, phobias, grief, and more.
  • Not the same as EMDR, but both use eye movements to process emotions and memories.
  • Works by helping your brain connect stored memories with your strengths and problem-solving abilities.

Benefits of ART

The benefits of Accelerated Resolution Therapy are both practical and emotional.

  • Fast Results: ART often works in 1–5 sessions, making it one of the most time-efficient therapies available.
  • Non-verbal Processing: You do not need to speak aloud about painful memories, making ART accessible for those who struggle to talk about trauma.
  • Full Emotional Resolution: Unlike coping-based therapies, ART aims for emotional resolution, not just symptom management.
  • Applicable to Many Issues: From war veterans to survivors of childhood abuse, ART is effective across a wide range of traumas and emotional challenges.
  • Evidence-Based: Several studies have found ART to be highly effective for PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

What Happens in a Session?

What Happens in a Session?

  1.  You remain in full control – This is not hypnosis. You’ll be awake, aware, and talking during the session.
  2. Rate your emotional intensity using a visual scale.
  3. Follow the therapist's hand with your eyes while thinking about the issue.
  4. Describe what you see, feel, or sense in your body.
  5. The therapist may guide you with specific prompts or questions to focus on.
  6. Utilize eye movements to alleviate distressing emotions and promote calmness.
  7. You may use creative visualization to mentally “rewrite” the memory with a positive image.
  8. Notice emotional and physical relief during and after the session.

What to Expect

Why Clinicians and Clients Love ART?

What Happens in a Session?

  •  You may feel initial discomfort when thinking about the issue—but this quickly shifts to calm and relief.
  • Sessions are typically calming, even for anxious clients.
  • Many describe feeling like a weight has been lifted afterward.
  • No need to “do it perfectly”—the eye movements guide the process naturally.
